University of Mary Washington - People for the Rights of Sexual Minorities
PRISM promotes visibility and education for gender and sexual minorities on the UMW campus. We provide a safe space where anyone in the community, GSM or ally, can come and meet like-minded people, learn about issues facing the community, and have a good time.
Meetings are on Mondays at 9 PM in the Red Room in Woodard Campus Center.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
A 16-year-old trans girl in Colorado was suspended from her high school for using a women’s restroom.
Dionne Malikowski and a trans guy friend of hers, Kurt Peters, were told only to use the staff restrooms on campus, but these are not always easily accessible. When she used a regular bathroom, she was suspended for three days.
“I cried,” Malikowski said. “I told them that it was really messed up for them to do that to me, and they were like, ‘We’ve warned you before,’ and I was just like, ‘Obviously you don’t understand what it’s like.’”
What in the world. No. This is beyond any kind of decency. A bathroom is a bathroom, and this kind of treatment is borderline abusive.
No “borderline” about it. It is abusive.
